We are over 4 weeks post op, and Leila is doing very well.  Her incision has finally healed and so is the drainage hole they stitched up last week.  This Friday we should get her final stitches removed and hopefully, the cone.  She is getting around well.  We were able to start chemo last week, and she did well with that also.  No sickness, just very tired for a couple of days.  We had beautiful weather here today,  and I was able to take her for a short walk.  I had to hold her back because she wanted to run.  It was just so nice to spend “normal” time with our girl again.

Leila, our 10 year old beautiful and sweet Belgian Sheepdog is 3 weeks post-op from having her front left leg amputated due to Osteosarcoma  – I hate that word.  The first couple of days were harder on me I think because it broke my heart to hear her cry.  She has been able to get up by herself since the surgery, and we only had to assist her getting out those first few days.  The first week went as about as smooth as it could from the type of surgery she had, but then we had some bleeding/discharge from her incision which prompted a trip to the ER because it happened after hours.  Since then we have had a minor surgery on the incision and just a few days ago, they had to stitch up the drainage hole which would not heal on its own.  My only fear now is that since they won’t do chemo until the drainage hole heals,  is that the cancer will have already spread which it may have done already.  However, we are staying positive and praying for the best.

Leila is feeling better every day, back to her very stubborn self and wanting to do everything without help.  Although the puppy kisses and tail wags came back shortly after surgery, she gave the vet one of her big Belgian smiles this week so I see the old Leila back.
